QCRTAUT

Create Default Public Authority

PowerTech recommended setting: *USE, then control at Library Level.

Importance: High

Purpose: Determines what authority *PUBLIC will have to newly created objects.  This value can and should be overridden at the individual library level.

Risks and Concerns: In a highly networked environment, *PUBLIC could literally mean the whole world.  *PUBLIC should have as little authority as possible, with most authorizations going to specific group profiles.

In any case *CHANGE is too much authority for end-users that have too many AS/400 objects such as libraries, programs, display files and printer files.   And, in some instances, *CHANGE authority is too little authority for certain database files that may get cleared and/or deleted as a matter of course.  Regardless of the setting at the system value level, the CRTAUT for individual libraries should be used as the primary means of controlling *PUBLIC's authority.
