Force object conversion during restore
PowerTech recommended setting: 1
Importance: Low
The following are some of the possible options:
0 = Restore all objects without conversion.
1 = Objects with validation errors are converted.
2 = Objects that must be converted to be used on the current version of the operating system and objects with validation errors are converted.
3 = Objects that are suspected of having been tampered with, objects that must be converted to be used on the current version of the operating system, or objects that have validation errors are converted.
Full details on the different possible values (0 through 7) can be found at the iSeries information center.
The value controls 'conversion on restore'. Conversion happens either on restore or on first use.
Note: If the system value sets a lower value, a restore command can override it with a higher value at run-time.
One primary difference is that higher values can cause longer restore times and take more system resources until the restore finishes. Alternatively, converting during restore will reduce the time it takes to use the objects when they’re first accessed.
An advantage of leaving the value set at '1' is if an issue exists with an object, you can learn about it during restore rather than finding out later when you finally need to use it.
Risks and Concerns: System values play an important role in restore operations. If you have further questions, the IBM iSeries Information Center provides several documents on how to plan and configure the system values that affect a restore operation.
