Repeat characters are allowed in passwords

PowerTech recommended setting: 2 = Consecutive characters cannot be repeated.

Importance: Low

Purpose: Limit repeating characters in a password. This prevents a user from using the same character more than once in the same password. For example bobw571 is not allowed, when the setting is 1;  AAAA is not allowed when the setting is 2.

Risks and Concerns: Makes passwords more difficult to choose and remember. Prevents the use of 'AAAA', but also prevents the use of words like 'boot' or 'freeze'. 1 is a stricter setting since it does not allow the same character to be repeated, but this may make passwords too difficult to remember with the result that people just write them down.
