NO NEED TO PANIC.
Our products are IBM i 6.1 ready. REALLY!
POWERTECH FULLY SUPPORTS IBM i 6.1
PowerTech has been testing its products against i 6.1 (formerly V6R1) since early versions of the IBM i OS became available late in 2007. While most of PowerTech's products were already compatible with the requirements of IBM’s new release, in some cases new product updates are required in order to run on i 6.1.
The PowerTech solutions that require new releases to support
i6.1 are now available for customers at www.powertech.com:
• Compliance Monitor 2.1
• Network Security 5.2.1
• Authority Broker 3.1.1
• Security Audit 2.1.1
The following PowerTech products already support i 6.1 and do not require new releases:
• Password Control
• Encryption
• Interact

Q:
Is there an audit process for moving from security level 30 to 40? We know level 30 is not considered to be secure.
A:
Yes, there is a nice audit process. First, make sure you are auditing *PGMFAIL and *AUTFAIL events in the QAUDLVL system value. The QAUDCTL system value must contain the value *AUDLVL. Events that will cause problems at Level 40 and/or 50 are easily reported if you have PowerTech’s Compliance Monitor or Security Audit. Look for Authority Failure (AF) audit journal entries. There are 6 specific journal sub-types to look for:;(S, B, C, D, J, and R). PowerTech Compliance Monitor V2.0 and higher has a report specifically to list Level 30 to Level 40 failure events. In general it is a simple process and fairly low risk to move from 30 to 40. PowerTech and our partners are well versed in helping customers move from QSECURITY level 30 to 40. It usually takes only a couple of days. Let us know if we can help.
Q:
In PowerTech Network Security, can you switch to a read-only profile? And what if the read-only profile does not have enough, or even more authority? How can this be handled?
A:
PowerTech Network Security version 6.0 will add new capabilities for object security. Providing read-only access to database files is one of the use cases that will be covered.
